Beyond the 11th Advisors and Board Members donate their time and expertise. We are volunteers who share our founders’ belief that widows in Afghanistan deserve the same support that Patti and Susan received after the death of their husbands. In addition, if we can provide assistance to a widow, so she can care for herself and her children, and feed and send her children to school, then we can help, if only in a small way, to end the cycle of poverty and violence in Afghanistan, making the world a safer place. Board Members Susan Retik, Founder (click for bio) Honorary Board Members Fatima Gailani: We are lucky to have Fatima’s support. Fatima is currently the President of the Afghanistan Red Crescent. She lives in Kabul and provides frequent updates on the status of widows. Fatima was a member of the drafting committee for the Afghan constitution and a member of the Afghan Loya Jirga. She is an advocate for women’s rights in Afghanistan and is frequently featured on CNN and the BBC.
