Working Together
Our grantees are Arzu, Bpeace, CARE International, and Women for Women International. We are proud to support these organizations. Our grants to these nonprofits have helped approximately 1,000 widows on the road to self-sufficiency. With an average of almost six children each, this support has reached roughly 6,000 impoverished Afghans. ArzuArzu — which means “hope” in Dari — helps provide sustainable income to Afghan widows by sourcing and selling their handmade carpets. Arzu’s goal is to create opportunities for economic self-reliance, education, and health care for Afghan women and their families through a sustainable carpet project that enjoys long-term access to US markets. BpeaceBusiness Council for Peace (Bpeace) offers Afghan female entrepreneurs business consulting, training, mentoring, networking opportunities, access to capital, and international markets for their goods and services. CARE’s Humanitarian Assistance for Widows of Afghanistan (HAWA) program is a manifestation of this vision, serving vulnerable women in Afghanistan by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. Learn about our work with CARE International. Women for Women InternationalWomen for Women International gives women survivors of war the tools they need to move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Since opening in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2002 the organization has provided women with the means to become active members of their communities through income-generating programs and business skill training. |
